Important tip: When you're booking hostels make sure to check that they're actually IN the city that you wish to stay in. We made that mistake once. York was fully booked, so we booked a budget hotel in Huby, which looked like it was only a very short distance from the city. Turned out we had to take a 20 minute bus ride outside of York. Then we were dropped at the end of a dirt road, and given the information that our hotel was about a mile down the road.
We started to walk, it started to get dark, we stopped at a farm house at one point to make sure we were trekking down the right road. We did find it eventually, but we were pretty worried for a while there.
Overjoyed to find the hotel.
